In 1998 Novamedia became the operator of another Dutch charity lottery, the Sponsor Bingo Lottery. On January 5th it changed its name in VriendenLoterij (FriendsLottery). This lottery supports charities that work to promote health and wellbeing. The members of the lottery can also support clubs and associations of their choice. VriendenLoterij was set up in 1989 at the initiative of Humanitas and, like the Dutch National Postcode Lottery and the BankGiro Lottery, it too is part of the Holding Goede Doelen Loterijen N.V. holding company. More then a half million members of VriendenLoterij purchased 805,000 lottery tickets in 2010 raising more than 90 million euros. The lottery then donated more than 45 million euros to 42 charities and more than 2.940 organisations. 21million of this 45 million was specially dedicated to good causes, clubs and association chosen by the members.
VriendenLoterij supports 33 organisations in the fields of health and well-being, including Hersenstichting Nederland (the Netherlands Brain Foundation), Nierstichting (the Netherlands Kidney Foundation), KWF Kankerbestrijding (the Dutch Cancer Society), Astma Fonds (the Netherlands Asthma Foundation) and the Diabetes Fonds (the Dutch Diabetes Research Foundation). As a Social Partner of the Eredivisie (DutchPremier League) the FriendsLottery works to highlight the importance of the social aspect of sport in general and football in particular.
