Boudewijn Poelmann received the 'The Club of Rome Award 2009' for the concept of the Postcode Lottery. This prize praises the effort of the lottery to put sutainable development on the public agenda. Together with Boudewijn, also Michael Gorbatsjov and Jim McNeill (a.o secretary of the Brundtland Commission, the award.

In 1972 the Club van Rome published the rapport 'Borders to Growing'. Herewith this organisation warned, as the first, the world against unrestricted growth of the worldpopulation and the economy with all effects of this to the environment. This rapport is still the bottomline for the Club of Rome and is very up to date! The Club of Rome consists of 100 politicians, scientists, businessmen and worldleaders. They come together once a year; this year was in Amsterdam.

De Club van Rome gave the following explanation on the allocation of the price to Boudewijn: 'The Postcode Lottery has a unique approach promoting sustainable development to the large part of the public, at the same time opening their eyes for information which otherwise would never reach the masses. Its founding father is Boudewijn Poelmann, and by awarding him our Prize, we want to emphasize the enormous importance of his work, and the uniqueness of this ‘agenda for the planet'.
