The Dutch Postcode Lottery, one of the main sponsors of SAIL, will organize two concerts with famous artists during this edition for UNICEF and the children in Sierra Leone.
Sail in Amsterdam
The Lottery has granted an extra amount of 1,89 million euro to UNICEF for the supply of clean water and sanitary facilities to 1,2 million people in Sierra Leone, one of the poorest countries in the world where one in four children dies before the age of five. This amount comes on top of the annual contribution of the Postcode Lottery to UNICEF of 15 million euro, because beneficiaries can apply each year for extra one-off contributions for specific projects. In 2009, the project "clean drinking water for the children in Sierra Leone" was one of the lucky recipients of the extra one-off contributions from the Lottery.
Lindy Laagewaard, Corporate Relations Manager at UNICEF the Netherlands:
"For many years we have been receiving money from the Dutch Postcode Lottery. That is already something special, but the extra one-off contributions are even more special. You know the people, you know the situation and therefore the relief is so big when you hear the project will be realized. Now we even get the chance to bring this project to the attention of a large audience during SAIL. For us this is a unique chance to bring across UNICEF’s general message as well as the project itself during such a large event."
