Amsterdam, 5 February 2008 – Earlier today the Sponsor Bingo Lottery distributed a sum of more than 40 million euros to ‘good cause’ organisations that promote health and well being. This is half of the total sum of more than 80 million euros spent on lottery tickets. A large share of this sum was raised by lottery players who specified which organisation they wanted half of the money they spent on lottery tickets to go to (this is known as ‘earmarked playing’). Between them the lottery players raised a total of 14.3 million euros for more than 2,200 clubs and associations.
Earmarked playing
Sponsor Bingo Lottery players can decide which good cause they want to play for (so-called ‘earmarked playing’). Many members raise money for their sport club or singing association by selling Sponsor Bingo Lottery tickets. The lottery players who buy the tickets stand a chance of winning more than 200,000 prizes, including cars, televisions and traveller’s cheques every week. The Sponsor Bingo Lottery also hands out cash prizes of 100,000 and 50,000 euros. Half of the money spent on lottery tickets is donated to good causes chosen by the players. The National Scouting organisation, the National Epilepsy Fund, the Nationale Vereniging De Zonnebloem, which helps people with a physical disability, CliniClowns, an organisation that provides entertainment for children who are ill or disabled, and other organisations were able to raise hundreds of thousands of euros.
Health and well being
Dozens of organisations that promote health and well being received donations from the Sponsor Bingo Lottery, including the Netherlands Brain Foundation, the Netherlands Kidney Foundation, the Dutch Cancer Society, the Dutch Asthma Fund and the Dutch Diabetes Fund. The Richard Krajicek Foundation, the Dutch Make a Wish Foundation, the Jantje Beton National Youth Fund and the Johan Cruyff Foundation, all of which work to promote the well being of children, also received a donation.
Bingo
The Sponsor Bingo Lottery presents itself as the bingo lottery in the Netherlands: lottery players play the increasingly popular game of bingo for lottery prizes. In July 2007 the Sponsor Bingo Lottery organised the Largest Bingo Game Ever, which was presented by Mies Bouwman, Ivo Niehe and Lucille Werner. Lottery players who support the campaign earmarked the money they spent on bingo lottery tickets for the new diagnostic centre at the VU Cancer Center in Amsterdam. Back...
