People's Postcode Lottery arrives in Wales!

The picturesque Millennium Centre was a fitting backdrop yesterday for the official launch of Wales’ own community lottery, People’s Postcode Lottery. People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Scott Quinnell gathered together Rachel Elias, representative for Missing People and Liz Fuller, representative for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres to announce the exciting arrival of People’s Postcode Lottery in Wales.

Community lottery

People’s Postcode Lottery is Wales’ own community lottery, and will raise funds for charities right here in Wales. The Welsh postcode game is mirroring an already hugely successful format currently on offer in Scotland and England, where a massive £8.5 million has been raised for charities.

People’s Postcode Lottery is a unique fundraising concept where players play with their postcode to win prizes and support local charities. Every week, will see one postcode in Scotland, England or Wales wins £30,000, with the postcode sector winning £5,000. Welsh players also have an exclusive Welsh postcode prize of £5,000, being split between a Welsh Street & Welsh postcode sector.

40p from every ticket will go to supporting the Welsh activity of two highly successful charities – Missing People and Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, with additional charities in Wales added to the list of benefitting charities as the lottery grows. Funding awarded to charities from People’s Postcode Lottery is unrestricted, meaning Missing People and Maggie’s can invest the money where they feel needs it most.

Ambassadors support

Liz Fuller, Maggie’s ambassador and ex Miss Great Britain said "The People's Postcode Lottery has helped Maggie's enormously in Scotland and England and I am delighted that their support is extending into Wales. I've visited Maggie's South West Wales Centre, located at the Singleton Hospital in Swansea where my stepdad was treated for cancer. The interim centre is already supporting people in the area and a purpose built centre will be going on site imminently that will help thousands of people living with cancer. Over 3,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in South West Wales every year and Maggie's will be there to help them and their families and friends. All of Maggie's services are completely free and they rely on fundraising, donations and grants to keep running and developing."

Rachel Elias, ambassador of Missing People and sister of missing Manic Street Preacher guitarist Richey Edwards said "Missing People has been a tremendous source of strength for me and my family over the last 15 years. I am thrilled that Welsh players of the People’s Postcode Lottery now have the chance to support their vital work."

Managing Director of People’s Postcode Lottery Jo Bucci said “People’s Postcode Lottery is thrilled to be launching in Wales. People’s Postcode Lottery allows whole communities to win together – we look forward to celebrating with local winners! Missing People and Maggie’s are 2 hugely deserving charities, and players of People’s Postcode Lottery can help support them, while hopefully winning some amazing prizes for themselves!”

To play, Welsh residents simply visit www.postcodelottery.com, or call 0808 10-9-8-7-6-5 to register their postcode. Tickets cost just £2 per week, and every week, more than 500 postcodes win. Now People’s Postcode Lottery is available in Wales, these numbers will rise, seeing more charities being supported and more winners!
