Swedish Postcode Lottery pays out 46 million euros to charitable causes.

October 2009
“Thanks to everyone who plays the lottery throughout Sweden, PostkodLotteriet is now able to pay out 460 million kronor to our 27 organisations – that’s 10 million more than our previous forecast,” says Niclas Kjellström-Matseke, CEO of the Swedish Postcode Lottery, Svenska PostkodLotteriet. Svenska PostkodLotteriet donates all of its profits to charitable causes. Since it was launched in autumn 2005, the Postcode Lottery has generated in excess of one billion kronor for charity.

According to statistics supplied by the Gaming Board for Sweden, during 2009 Svenska PostkodLotteriet has been more successful in increasing its sales than any other participants in the Swedish gambling market. During the first half of 2009, Lottery’s sales increased by 30 percent.

"The fact that during 2009 Lotteriet has attracted more lottery subscribers than ever before is a clear sign that our business concept of Market-Driven Charity works even in a recession," says Niclas Kjellström-Matseke.

Postcode Lottery - an effective way of collecting money

Subscribers are attracted to Lotteriet by the use of direct marketing, TV entertainment and big lottery prizes. All of Lottery's profits are then shared amongst 27 charitable organisations, with the money used in a number of different areas – primarily children's rights, support for people in vulnerable situations or involved in disasters, education, the environment and research.
"The money collected by Lotteriet for its charitable organisations makes a big difference in their efforts to make the world a better place," says Niclas Kjellström-Matseke.

The Swedish Postcode Lottery has now 27 charities: Alzheimerfonden, Amnesty International, Astma- och Allergiförbundet, Barncancerfonden, BRIS [Children's Rights in Society], Cancerfonden [The Swedish Cancer Society], Erikshjälpen, Friends, Greenpeace, Hand in Hand, Hjärt-Lungfonden [The Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation], Kooperation Utan Gränser [The Swedish Cooperative Centre], Läkare Utan Gränser [Médecins Sans Frontières], MinStoraDag [My Big Day], Neurologiskt Handikappades Riksförbund [The Swedish Association for Persons with Neurological Disabilities], Plan Sverige, PostkodStiftelsen [the Swedish Postcode Foundation], Reumatikerförbundet [The Swedish Rheumatism Association], Rädda Barnen [Save the Children Sweden], Scouterna [the Swedish Guide and Scout Organisation], Sjöräddningssällskapet, SOS-Barnbyar, Svenska Röda Korset [The Swedish Red Cross], Sveriges Stadsmissioner [Sweden's national association of city missions], UNHCR, UNICEF and the WWF.
