United Postcode Lotteries commit to protect the living oceans

New York (September 22, 2010) – Today the United Postcode Lotteries, together with Greenpeace, the Marine Stewardship Council, and the World Wildlife Fund, announced their Commitment to Action 2010 at the Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative in New York.

Previously, the Postcode Lottery committed to boost the LED technology in the Netherlands (2008) and to replicate the Dutch Postcode Lottery system in other countries to increase funding for charitable organizations (2006).

This year’s Commitment is called ‘Postcode Lottery Project Oceans’:
“The United Postcode Lotteries, together with Greenpeace, the Marine Stewardship Council, and the World Wildlife Fund, seek to protect the richness of life in the oceans by committing to undertake a widespread public awareness campaign about the environmental concerns facing our seas. This will be underpinned by a program of work focused on ending overfishing and protecting endangered species, increasing the supply of MSC-certified seafood from the Western and Central Pacific Oceans, and establishing High Seas Marine Protected Areas around the globe.”

Project focus
The project’s main focus is to protect the oceans species, such as the Ancient Mariner- Sea turtle and the blue fin tuna and to develop Marine Protected Areas (MPA) around the globe. Also, the project stimulates sustainable fishing methods and aims to raise consumer awareness and change consumer behavior. www.projectoceans.com
