That was what Poelmann, founder of Novamedia, announced on Wednesday evening at the annual Charity Gala. During this gala evening, the Lottery traditionally reveals how much money it can give away to charities thanks to its players.
The organisation, whose mission is to make the world a better place, recently crossed the magical 10 billion euros mark, which it has now donated to hundreds of charities and thousands of social initiatives.
After reaching this milestone, and thirty years after the first draw, Poelmann thinks this is a good time to hand over his role of CEO of the Executive Board. This was done in consultation with and the approval of the Supervisory Boards of Novamedia and the Charity Lotteries. However, he will remain a member of the Executive Board for the time being.
Boudewijn Poelmann: “Now that we are on the way to the second 10 billion euros, this seems to me the perfect time for a new face as chairperson. So it is with great pleasure that I am passing on the gavel to my dear colleague Sigrid van Aken. Sigrid is well known to most people and I am confident that with all her talents, and all those creative and passionate colleagues, she will successfully continue our wonderful mission for a better world.”
Sigrid van Aken symbolically accepted the gavel. She gave thanks for the trust placed in her and praised the unwavering courage of the founders in thinking and acting in big terms. “It is often said that we are such a special organisation. And we really are. I am happy with this great group of engaged colleagues. Of course, we will continue along the path we have taken. We know exactly what we have to do.” Van Aken added.
Sigrid van Aken worked as COO for seven years and later as CFO of Novamedia’s Board of Directors. As such, she is a member of the Executive Board of the Holding Nationale Goede Doelen Loterijen and thus of the Dutch Postcode Lottery, the BankGiro Lottery and the FriendsLottery.
In 2002, she started working in the Charities Department, where she soon became responsible for the yearly allocation of funds to the beneficiaries of the three Dutch Charity Lotteries. In 2006, she was appointed Deputy Managing Director, and subsequently became chair of the three Managing Directors. In 2013, she joined the Executive Board of Novamedia, the owner of various lottery formats and brands including the Postcode Lottery. This lottery now raises funds for charities in five countries.
